As the weather is starting to warm up, you might want to plan your first RV trip of the season. But before you start your camper and hit the road, you will want to perform a few maintenance checks to prepare it for your outing. Don’t worry if you are unsure where to begin—our spring RV checklist has you covered.

Read on to learn more, and for more information, come down to Open Road Outlet for a friendly chat with our team. You will find us in West Saint Paul, MB, where we happily welcome our patrons from Saskatchewan and Steinbach.

Open the Windows and Doors

The first thing you will want to do is let fresh air enter your camper so you can ward off the musty smell from its months of being in storage. Open the doors and windows of your rig, pull out the curtains, cushions, and mattresses, and leave them on a tarp. This will help you rid any unpleasant smells and moisture from the fabric.

De-Winterize Your RV's Water System

Next, you will want to de-winterize your water system by draining your freshwater tank. Once it is empty, refill it with clean, potable water.

You will also want to run the shower and faucets in your RV to flush the lines and remove any antifreeze and dirt buildup by draining your camper at a dump station.

Examine the Interior for Leaks and Pests

In addition, you will want to inspect the interior of your RV to see if any critters are living there. You will want to check out your roof, windows, pipes, and storage areas and fill your propane tanks to ensure that the connections are tight and free of any leakage.

With this, you should have your RV ready for your spring camping trip. If you have more questions or are still in the market for a new camper, visit Open Road Outlet. We are in West Saint Paul, MB, but we serve Saskatchewan and Steinbach—so swing in today.
