If you’ve recently bought your first ATV, or plan to buy one soon, you’ll need to purchase a few important safety items to keep you safe on your first ride! Protective Clothing

If you’ve ever ridden an ATV before, you know that they can kick up quite a bit of dust and debris. To keep yourself safe from flying objects, it’s incredibly important that you wear the right clothing on your rides. Typically, long-sleeved shirts, closed-toed shoes, and pants made of durable materials such as denim will suffice.

If you plan on performing any tricks or tackling extremely difficult terrain, you may want to invest in some more heavy-duty clothing to protect you in case you fall off your vehicle. A majority of ATV and powersport vehicle dealerships also sell riding gear, such as padded jackets, pants, and gloves, to help protect you in case of a crash.

Helmet

Local laws regarding helmets and ATVs vary quite a bit from state to state. Some may require all drivers to wear helmets, others may only require children to wear helmets, and others will require the use of a DOT-approved helmet. Before taking a ride on your ATV, we encourage you to check your state’s ordinances to be sure you’re not breaking any laws.

This way, you can ensure your helmet not only fits correctly but doesn't obscure your vision in any way. Not being able to see clearly often leads to crashes, and an ill-fitting helmet won’t provide enough protection on impact.
