RV Buying Tips for Beginners

There is no such thing as a “perfect RV”, in the sense that an RV that perfectly suits one person’s needs may not be right for a different person with very different needs. That is why manufacturers have created so many RV subtypes. At CG Open Road Outlet, we know that finding an RV that is right for you is a matter of asking the right questions. That is why we have created this guide to help start you on your RV-buying journey. 

Motorhome or Towable 

The two major camper types are motorhomes and towable RVs. Motorhomes have their own drivetrain, meaning they can be driven around like gigantic cars. Motorhomes are for you if you don’t have a tow vehicle or don’t want to deal with the hassle of hitching or unhitching.

While towable RVs require a tow vehicle in order to get from place to place, they are more affordable than motorhomes. While you will need a bit of experience before you can tow with ease, once you get the hang of it you can go anywhere your tow vehicle can take you. 

Choose Your Subtype

Once you have chosen between a motorhome and a towable RV, you should look at the various subtypes that fall under each category. Each of these subtypes offers unique features that tailor them to particular styles of RV camping, so do your research to decide which are best with your own camping plans. 

The Size

Another point to consider is the size. RVs run the gamut from tiny teardrops with only one bed to massive park models that offer unparalleled comfort but are so huge they require a special vehicle and trained driver to transport. Generally, the bigger an RV is, the more expensive and difficult to transport. At the same time, bigger RVs also offer more amenities and features, as well as room for more people. Smaller RVs are cheaper and easier to transport but don’t have as much room.
